With the record-smashing Monterey auction dust still settling, all eyes are now shifting to Auburn, Indiana, site of two big Labor Day weekend auctions. If we’re to approach both events in alphabetical order, then up first is Auctions America’s (by RM) four-day extravaganza at the Auburn Auction Park just south of downtown Auburn.
Seems fitting that we lead off a sampling of what AA will be offering with the car pictured above: A 1934 Auburn 12 Salon Phaeton. It’s touted as being a multiple AACA award winner and a second-in-class Pebble Beach winner.
If you are on the hunt for a woodie wagon, you could not possibly get any more extravagant than this lovely 1941 Cadillac, its build reportedly commissioned during World War II. The Cadillac’s history seems to be extensively documented, most of it in Maine. Not only did it make an appearance at Pebble Beach, is was also included in a Special Interest Autos pictorial entitled “Bah Habbah, 1947″ (issue #41, August-October 1977).
How about some international flair combined with brute V-8 power? This 1975 Jensen Interceptor III convertible packing a Chrysler 440-cu.in. V-8 could be an interesting cruiser, unless you wanted to preserve the advertised low mileage of 12,000.
Speaking of Chrysler Corporation products, there might be a few muscle car guys willing to take a stab at acquiring this 1969 Plymouth Road Runner sporting the highly desirable A12 performance package. The list of goodies here includes the underrated 440 6-barrel engine, lift-off scooped fiberglass hood, Dana 60 differential with a 4.10 gear and the all-important four-speed transmission, the last fact making it one of 422 according to the Mopar experts.
Our last stop at this all-too-brief something for everyone sneak peek of AA’s catalog is another super car from 1969: this Yenko Camaro. Exact build details are outlined on the website, but the one number that stuck out during our examination was 5,500, which is what the seller is claiming to be original miles this Chevy has traversed (actually, just over 5,500).
We’ve only picked a few to highlight here – perhaps there’s something just waiting to be discovered that fits your taste and budget.
